Univarsity launches YouPlus: the first mobile app to inspire academic achievement through physical activity.

In its mission to improve the educational outcomes, mental health, and physical well-being of students everywhere, Ed-Tech and Well-being start-up, Univarsity, has launched YouPlus: You. And Improved.

Exercise is proven to help analyse complex problems, retain detailed information, reduce stress, and increase attention. YouPlus is the first smart well-being app to capitalise on established scientific links between physical activity and increased brain performance.

YouPlus encourages the user to engage (and stay engaged) in tailored activities ranging from a five-minute morning meditation to heartbeat-raising HIIT workouts, depending on their experience and confidence. Crucially it links activity to academic timetables and the individual’s routines to maximise the benefits of physical exercise and its impact on the brain when students need it most.

By understanding a student's pressure points and stressful periods in their university career, YouPlus can prescribe ‘BrainBoosting’ physical activity alongside exams and lectures to provide an easy path into activity and maximise their chances of succeeding academically.

YouPlus is not just built for gym goers, sports lovers, and marathon runners; it’s made for the students who may have drifted away from being active or those discouraged by the sports jerseys and initiations. The app has activities for all abilities, even a walk around the campus or a five-minute dance around a bedroom can do wonders for the mind. Univarsity’s mission is to ensure every student has the best opportunities to get active.

YouPlus has been designed to address critical strategic health goals as outlined by Sport England, the NHS, and the UK Government and has been developed in conjunction with an illustrious Advisory Committee, made up of a number of key figures who already champion participation and commitment to health and wellbeing. These include double-gold medalist Paralympian Danielle Brown, a recent graduate with tech expertise who also happens to be a three-time Rowing World Champion, a leading influencer, blogger and women's empowerment advocate, and other sector leaders.

YouPlus has already garnered great interest amongst a number of universities in the UK and Europe, such as London South Bank University (England), University of Helsinki (Finland), Vilnius University (Lithuania), Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (Catalonia), and Mykolas Romeris University (Lithuania).

Univarsity’s Chairman says: “Universities are failing to capitalise on the benefits of exercise to aid students’ academic attainment. The interest in Univarsity’s solution is only growing larger due to the immediate benefits to the strategic goals of institutions in the higher education landscape. YouPlus helps institutions achieve their objectives while providing a duty of care to their student population, giving them the best chance to be physically and mentally fit, and achieve academically. It has enormous potential, both commercially and for the future benefit of society.”
